Well it’s time for my annual Dragon Con blog post.
It was my 5th Con and it never disappoints! Especially since this was the 30th one!
An estimated 75,000 geeks visited Atlanta for the four day con. I didn’t take as many photos as usual, but there’s no lack of them on Facebook and pretty much everywhere you look. Google Dragon Con 2016 and see what images YOU get!
I got to go to some wonderful panels, mainly Young Adult literature panels since I’m a librarian and collection development is a large part of my job. To me, it is really important to not only give all of our patrons a window to other cultures/lifestyles, but a mirror so they can see themselves in the characters. Diversity and inclusivity is extremely important to me. Our communities are made up of so many wonderful and different people, I feel they should all be celebrated and acknowledged.
I also was fortunate to visit some writer’s panels and met up with a few wonderful authors that I have met in previous years. It is so much fun to discuss what they are working on and even to discuss how our personal lives affect our writing -whether it is the frequency of it or the change in subject. Yes, authors have lives, too! Shocking, I know. Anyway, I got to see my author friends A.J Hartley (Author of “Sekret Machines” with Tom DeLonge from Blink 182, and “Steeplejack” among others) and E.C. Myers (Author of “Fair Coin” and “Silence of Six” among others) and chat about writing and how their panels were going. I also met author Christopher Paolini, author of the Inheritance Cycle (“Eragon”, etc.)
I also work at the volunteer booth which is awesome- I work with the best people!!
People watching is also a fun pastime whether I’m in the booth or walking from panel to panel.
I have pics below for your perusal. Enjoy!! Until next year…WINGS UP!
