Good morning!
This post is two-fold this morning since I have exciting news AND more witchy info for all you readers out there.
First of all, a HUGE thank you to Martin & Justin at Monk’s Mead in Atlanta! They delivered 12 one-liter bottles of mead for my book signing raffle baskets! The best part? They are in BLUE BOTTLES – just like in my book! They did a special pour for me and my book and for that I am so grateful. I will have pics on Saturday since I have to travel a bit to pick them up. No worries though, I couldn’t be happier. Hopefully I will be able to meet up with them at Dragon Con to personally thank at least one of them, get a pic, and have a drink to celebrate.
So…blue bottles.
COLOR is so important in spells. In “The Silver Cord”, Kat and Jess discuss candle colors and stones. Just like herbs, and flowers, and foods have magical properties, so do colors. I make mention of the colors that Kat wears when she goes out with Colin – red and black. The décor of the house is pretty neutral to allow the use of color magic to not be interrupted…although the kitchen walls are sage green.
A book that I used for research regarding the days and colors for spell casting is “Seven Days of Magic” by Ellen Dugan. Colors, tarot cards, stones and herbs for each day are outlined in a simple to use guide.
Color has been studied outside of magical properties. Did you know that wearing blue at an interview can make you appear trustworthy? Here is a great site about dressing for success and some of their suggestions: http://jobs.aol.com/articles/2010/12/27/meaning-of-colors-at-work/
"Studies show that navy blue is the best color for a suit to wear to a job interview, because it inspires confidence. You are more likely to get the job when you wear navy blue to an interview than any other color." "It's the color of the sky, or 'true blue,'" she says. "It's both friendly and powerful. It connotes loyalty. Have you noticed how many companies use blue in their logo and corporate colors?" Think the ultimate friendly and connected company, Facebook. Think IBM. Look at your computer screen right now and notice how many advertisers, programs, websites and platforms use blue as their main color.”
"Red is powerful and strong. It shows you're not afraid to stand out, and it gets attention," says professional image consultant Mary Lin Dedeaux. But beware of too much, or too tight red. It could get you in trouble. A tight red dress says, to put it mildly, "flirt alert." A bright red button down shirt with a dark suit and tie could look too Vegas or Mafia on a man. And while a red suit on a woman is great for politicians and public speakers, in some settings it can be a little bright and intimidating. It can also give the impression that you're flashy, and not a team player.”
In magic, color has properties as well. There are plenty of sites and books on what color candles or stones to use for a spell. As I mentioned, I used Ellen Dugan’s book (one of many that I used for reference) to help with day/color significance in the book.

Now then, why blue bottles? Why did Kat wear red and black? Why is their kitchen (that they conduct business in, too) painted green?
Hmmmm, I guess you’ll just have to look it up :)
Have a great day!
